Your consultant’s guide to cubital tunnel syndrome

What problems does it cause

  • pins and needles or tingling into the ring and little finger, particularly when the elbow is bent, e.g. talking on the phone
  • can be associated with pain or discomfort on the inner side of the elbow near the ‘funny bone’
  • can progress to numbness which is present all of the time
  • difficulty in doing fiddly tasks such as zips/buttons

What solutions can be offered

  • making adjustments to activities which provoke symptoms
  • surgery to release the nerve at the elbow if things don’t improve or worsen
