Your doctor’s advice

You have suffered an injury to your wrist. Sprains to the wrist are very common and most settle in time.

Please take time to listen to the video advice about wrist injuries and about wrist rehabilitation with our physiotherapy videos. Many questions you may have will be covered by these videos.

Do

  • Elevate your wrist above your elbow to help with any swelling
  • Painkillers can be used initially to help
  • Keep in a splint for 6 weeks and then wean out as pain allows
  • Move your fingers as soon as possible

Don’t

  • Do not remove your splint too soon unless pain is settling
  • Do not start heavy lifting or pushing until you are safely out of your splint
